Remembering World War One – The Scouts in Hertfordshire

Following on from his work experience with the Everyday Lives in War team, Joe Engledew, a pupil at Richard Hale School, Hertford, visited the Hertfordshire County Scout Archive at Well End, Borehamwood. There he met Frank Brittain the County Archivist and heard more about what scouts did during the war. You can hear Joe talking about what he found out here. The Everyday Lives in War team are fascinated by the way that Joe related to events 100 years ago, and the appeal of ideas about patriotism and sacrifice across generations (for alternative views of the war, see the report on the Military Tribunals workshop)
