Student Voices after the Great War: Commemorating Conflict, Building Peace Funding Awarded!

We are pleased to announce that Student Voices after the Great War: Commemorating Conflict, Building Peace has received funding. The aftermath of the Great War saw a major broadening of the social composition of the student body, as a grant scheme for ex-service students created possibilities for individuals who would have otherwise been unable to afford higher education. By 1922, the number of students enrolled at British universities had doubled compared to pre-war figures, and by the end of the following year, the government had provided grants to 33,668 war veterans. This project will stage an event at the Bristol festival featuring performative and presentation elements, offering a glimpse into the experiences and activities of the post-war student generation. The script will be jointly developed by current university students, WEA members and academics.
