Al Johnson and Ian Rudge ‘The Art of Recovery’ (Al Johnson is also exhibiting The Lost Files, her installation about the conscientious objectors of WW1 during the festival. It is installed at the Crypt at St John on the Wall, Broad Street BS1 2EZ, from 25th April to 20th May)

Al is a sculptor and director of Art for Bravo 22, a programme for recovery through the arts. Al will talk about her role and the development of The Art of Recovery a sculpture project for wounded, injured and sick service personnel and their family members. During the four-week Art of Recovery course participants work with Al to create life size wire and mesh figures that communicate the experience of injury and associated mental health problems, including PTSD. One of the participants, Ian Rudge, a military veteran from Manchester, will talk about the sculpture he made, and how the project has improved his confidence and mental health
