Student Contributions to Peace, Refugee Aid and Anti-Racism: A Workshop

November 24, 2017 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

24 November 2017, 12.00-4.30pm, NUS Macadam House, 275 Gray’s Inn Road, London

How have higher education student activists sought to promote peace and reconciliation? How have they challenged racism? And what efforts did they launch to support refugees? This event brings together academics and activists to investigate the lessons of the past and the challenges of the present.

The workshop is organised by the National Union of Students (NUS) and researchers from UCL Institute of Education and Northumbria University, funded by a grant from the Everyday Lives in War First World War Engagement Centre.

There will be contributions from historians of student activism Jodi Burkett, Georgina Brewis, Mike Day, Sarah Hellawell and Daniel Laqua plus reflections from current student campaigners and volunteers.

A light lunch is provided with the chance to view a pop-up exhibition on students’ experiences after the First World War.

For any questions about the event, feel free to contact Georgina Brewis (g.brewis@ucl.ac.uk) or Daniel Laqua (daniel.laqua@northumbria.ac.uk).
